ENG-20031-XA094 Persuasive Arguments 24DA01
Competency
In this project, you will demonstrate your mastery of the following competency:
- Construct a persuasive argument that is supported with research
Scenario
You are the training supervisor for Firm X, a major department store chain that operates in seventeen states within the United States. They target shoppers under the age of 35. Firm X sells clothes, electronics, home furnishings, and more recently, groceries and other household goods. The expanding retail offerings Firm X is providing have caused a surge in hiring, and it has become apparent that managing training within each store has led to some inconsistencies in the quality and accuracy of the overall training experience for your new employees. Your division manager, Ms. Gonzalez, has asked you to determine a more efficient and consistent way to train all of Firm X’s new employees. After researching the training practices in many of Firm X’s stores, you have concluded that an online training program is the best option for standardizing Firm X’s training experience.
As the training supervisor, you are responsible for mentoring and training new hires in your company. You also are expected to begin the process of creating the online orientation training. Before you can begin this work, you need to secure consensus from your human resources department that this online training will fulfill the needs of new employees. Unfortunately, you are experiencing some pushback from some HR employees because they feel it will depersonalize the training process. You need to persuade them to agree to this new method of training. To do this, you will develop a presentation (in PowerPoint, Prezi or another program) that you will share with all HR staff to persuade them to see the benefits of moving to a totally online training system.
Directions
As the training supervisor, you must ensure that all new employees of Firm X receive consistent, accurate, and clear training in your company’s policies and expectations. To move forward with your proposed online training program, your human resources department needs to know that it will not only adhere to your company’s standards but also be compliant with privacy regulations regarding employee information.
Your task is to develop a persuasive presentation with speaker notes (in PowerPoint, Prezi, or a similar program) that you will share with all HR staff so that they can see the benefits of moving to a totally online training system. To make this presentation as impactful as possible, you will need to tailor your message to your audience, the human resources staff. Your speaker notes will help you add essential information to share with your audience beyond what appears on each slide. Be sure to use correct grammar, writing conventions, tone, and style to suit your audience. Also, be mindful of the visual appeal of your presentation. It should be interesting to look at, but not so overwhelming that it distracts the audience from your message.
This presentation should include the following elements:
- An introduction slide briefly describing the concern being addressed, approximately a paragraph (four to five complete sentences) in length
- A minimum of two slides highlighting the ways in which an online training program is more efficient than site-based training
- A minimum of three slides highlighting best practices for an online training program
- A minimum of two slides describing how an online training program will benefit employees
- A slide summarizing the most important information you want your audience to remember
- Speaker notes for each slide that you create
- A final slide citing all of the sources you used to research this topic.
