Professional counseling
Blog One
Prior to enrolling in your counseling program, you may have envisioned what your future professional counseling practice might look like. Perhaps you contemplated what your office might look like and who your colleagues might be, but most importantly, the type of clients you would help. Now that you are here and in the first course of your program, it will be very important for you to begin thinking about what interests you in the field and what your professional goals might be in your future work.
Throughout this course, you will participate in a Blog with your colleagues. The purpose of this Blog is to provide you an opportunity to share your passion for your future professional practice, share your knowledge, build your community network with your colleagues, and to refine your writing skills.
In this week’s Blog, you and your colleagues will share interests and professional goals, the types of clients you hope to work with, and what you are excited about as you continue in your graduate program, as well as any apprehensions you might have. This is your opportunity to connect and communicate with your colleagues and to get to know your colleagues as professional peers.
Note: Blogs are conversational in nature and are intended to generate ideas and encourage discussion. Therefore, no APA citations of Learning Resources are required for your Blog posts. Your Blog posts need to be graduate-level from a grammar perspective.
Post the following to the Blog:
- What are your professional goals?
- What type of clients would you like to work with?
- What are you excited about as you move forward in your online program?
- What are your fears about starting an online graduate program?
Blog Two
Everyone identifies with a certain modality to accommodate the best way they learn. Have you ever thought about the way you learn? Do you consider yourself an auditory learner? A visual learner, or even a kinesthetic learner? As you begin this week, think about the habits you have formed to accommodate your learning style and what helps your focus.
Whatever your learning style, receiving feedback from instructors is an important part of your learning experience. Quantitative feedback is given as your numerical score in the grade center. However, did you know that faculty also provide personal written messages about your work in the form of qualitative feedback? Qualitative feedback is provided along with your numerical score, in both your rubrics and in Feedback to learner in the grade center.
In this Blog, you will explore the different ways individuals learn and how these different ways might impact the online learning experience. You will take a fun “quiz” that determines your particular learning style. Finally, you will locate your instructor feedback in the grade center.
Note: Blogs are conversational in nature and are intended to generate ideas and encourage discussion. Therefore, no APA citations of Learning Resources are required for your Blog posts. Your Blog posts need to be graduate-level from a grammar perspective.
Post the following to the Blog:
Based on the results of your learning style quiz, think about how these results might impact the way you learn in an online learning environment.
- What might you need to do to be a successful online learner?
- What strategies can you use to help you to be successful (i.e., communicate with your instructor, communicate with your colleagues)?
- State if you were able to successfully locate both your numerical grade area and your instructor’s qualitative feedback area for your Week 1 Blog or ask for assistance.
Blog Three
