ASSIGNMENT3 BRIEF

INTERVIEW WITH A DESIGNER

Description & Goals

Towards the end of this course, students should have the ability to speak about codes and building systems with some authority.  As the final assignment, students will interview an interior designer working here in UAE.  If a senior, this can be your mentor; otherwise please think back to other opportunities where you have been introduced to a designer.  Part of this assignment is outreach and networking

Interviews can be done via video, or in person. Please consider, with consent, recording the interview. The focus of your questions should be related to this course

Minimum questions:

  1. How have codes impacted your creativity?
  2. How have building systems impacted your work?
  3. Accessibility – how have you provided everyone with the same experience even if using a different route?
  4. Does learning about codes really matter?
  5. Does learning about building systems really matter?
  6. Have you had to revise a design because it wasn’t code-compliant/to code?
  7. Which code do you follow?
  8. Have you ever designed to a stricter code?  If so, why?
  9. How have codes made your project better?
  10. As a designer, is following a code easy?
  11. Any experience with permitting delays?

Plus students will need to ask a minimum of 5 different questions, related to the course. 

Deliverables/ rubric:

Compile your interview into a presentation, you can include video clips if you recorded the conversation.  Your presentation should be engaging, this will be shared with the class. 

Naming convention: IDES 369_assign3_last name, first name

80% Completeness – did you address the questions from the class plus 5 of your own??

20% Presentation quality – Is the presentation engaging to share? Remember graphics and grammar count!  Look at the ID design guidelines.
