Analysis

Supports play important roles at all mechanical structures. Proper supports create stable, rigid, and long-lasting structures, insufficient supports produce unstable structures, and redundant supports cause unwanted stresses and distortions to structures and decrease their load-bearing capability and life time. Please determine which ones in the following structures are properly, insufficiently or redundantly supports. If the structures have extra supports, cross out the redundant ones. (20 pts)

2.     Please draw the responses in a Cartesian coordinate of the three supports on the figure below. (10 pt

3.     A 10 inch diameter beam is subject to 1,000 lbf at the middle of the span. Figure out the shear force and bending at 3 feet from the left. (10 pts)

4.     A beam is subject to a uniform load. Figure out the shear force and bending moment at location 8 inch. (20 pts)

5.     Find the reactions at supports A and then calculate N, V and M at the section 10 inches from Point A. (40 pts)
