ACCT 220 Report SEC 10-K and presentation
SEC 10-K Paper and PowerPoint Presentation
- Select a company from the top Fortune 500 that is publicly traded. Remember that our company is PepsiCo.
- Begin by accessing the SEC 10-K Annual Report for the most recent year. This is available at the company web site or SEC.gov. Save the file to your computer for access. There is no need to print as the report is usually 100 pages or more.
- You will write a 2 – 3 page paper, single spaced, one inch margins, 12 pt font, with double space between paragraphs. Take care to avoid academic dishonesty. Sources (including your text) should be properly cited.
Your Paper should include:
- An introductory paragraph describing your company and why you chose it.
- Provide a general overview of the company’s performance based on their financial statements compared to its prior year (Did Revenues increase? Did Net Income increase? Are there any significant increases or decreases in assets or liabilities?)
- Review the notes to the financial statements and identify:
- What is the company’s fiscal year?
- Who are the auditors?
- What inventory valuation is used and what does this mean (LIFO/FIFO/weighted average)?
- Does the company have any Bad Debts in regards to Accounts Receivable? Does this appear to be consistent with the prior year?
- What depreciation method does the company use? What is the relationship between Property, Plant & Equipment, Depreciation Expense and Accumulated Depreciation?
- For all of the above be sure to describe what you see in the financial statements/notes and what it means as it relates to what we’ve discussed in class.
- A concluding paragraph summarizing your paper.
Your PowerPoint Slides should include:
- An introductory slides with the company and your name
- It should contain more visuals and less words
- 4-5 slides of information that you obtained while doing your report. Please note that this should not be copied and pasted from your paper. You will need to summarize and make effective bullet points. Keep in mind that graphics are easier to understand than some written material
- Final slide with concluding remarks
